True Story

An Officer and a Murderer came to tv as a Lifetime original movie in 2012. It is based on the crimes and life of Colonel David Russell Williams. The events took place in Canada. You can find tremendous coverage of this case on the net. Col. David Russell Williams began committing these crimes in 2007 (that we know of). He was finally brought to justice in 2010. In the end he confessed to everything. He was convicted on 88 counts and is currently serving a life sentence. He will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years.

According to, the director spent time visiting the actual locations. He was fascinated with Williams' personality and character. They decided to use most of dialogue from the Williams' taped interviews with police, instead of having the scriptwriter change it.

The movie received a lot of criticism because of it's slight deviation from actual events.

The police nor family members wanted anything to do with the movie. According to the Huffington Post, his medals, uniform and vehicle were destroyed.

I have been working on this particular story for most of the week. I found out that two immigration agents actually consulted on the movie. This story is based on their cases. Also, I found the character played by Kirstie Alley very intriguing. I am almost sure her character was based on two women: Theresa Erickson and Lauryn Galindo. You can find my articles about them on Examiner. (read it here)

Oh, the main case I forgot to mention was that of Robert Porges and his wife. That case happened in 2000. Immigration agents worked for some time to bring Porges to justice.
